Gal Gadot, the renowned actress who played the title character in “Wonder Woman,” unexpectedly won the Miss Israel pageant and was subsequently sent to compete in the Miss Universe pageant. However, she deliberately attempted to lose points during the competition. In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, she recounted her experience with fondness, stating that one of the judges, Paula Abdul, questioned her and she responded in a heavily accented manner, claiming that she did not know English. She did everything within her power to ensure that she did not win the crown.
Gal Gadot, the Israeli actress known for portraying Wonder Woman in movies, had participated in the Miss Universe 2004 competition held in the United States. However, during a 2016 interview with Jimmy Kimmel, she revealed that being a beauty queen was not her calling and explained that she did not see herself as “that type of woman.” When asked about her decision to compete in the Miss Israel pageant at the age of 18, the 1.78m tall actress shared that she registered because she wanted to be able to tell her future children and grandchildren about her experience. Despite having a gorgeous face and a tempting figure, Gal Gadot lacked confidence in her own beauty. In a nostalgic Instagram post, she shared a photo of herself being crowned as Miss Israel and expressed her surprise and confusion over why she was chosen on that particular night.
After participating in a beauty pageant, Gal Gadot took a different career path than her predecessors. She chose to serve in the Israeli Defense Forces as a combat instructor for two years instead of pursuing showbiz right away. Later on, she enrolled in university to study Law and International Relations with the intention of becoming a lawyer, but her acting skills were too impressive to ignore. Despite her attempts to avoid the entertainment industry, casting agents and directors sought her out. Her first few appearances were on Israeli TV shows before auditioning for Quantum of Solace’s Bond girl, a role that ultimately went to Olga Kurylenko. Gadot was determined to improve her craft, so she went back to school to study acting. She later returned to Hollywood, where she landed a part in Fast and Furious 5. Her military experience proved to be valuable in action films, which she enjoys.
Gal Gadot rose to international fame for her exceptional portrayal of the legendary character, Wonder Woman. Her career took a remarkable turn when she landed the role of the female superhero in the 2017 movie, which was hugely successful, grossing over $800 million. This led to Gadot receiving a considerable pay raise of $10 million for the sequel, a significant jump from her earnings of $300,000 for the first film. Moreover, she signed an impressive contract to star as the lead in the upcoming production, Cleopatra.
Aside from her flourishing career in acting, Gadot is happily married to her millionaire husband, Yaron Varsano. The couple exchanged vows in 2008 and are proud parents of two daughters.
